November in Woodcreek North
The air is finally cooling off and the Hill Country is settling into my favorite time of year. Here are a few things I'm doing around my own house this month, plus a couple of local traditions worth marking on the calendar.
Around the House
Plant your lavender seeds. If a packet came tucked in my letter, now is a great time to get them in the ground. Pick your sunniest spot with soil that drains well, and the cooler months will give them a good start before spring.
Get ready for the first freeze. Disconnect garden hoses, cover outdoor faucets, and bring tender potted plants inside or up close to the house on cold nights. It's also a good time to make sure you know where your water shutoff is.
Test your heater early. Run it once on a mild day so any dusty smell burns off, swap the air filter, and check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Clear the leaves. Rake dry leaves and brush away from the house and out of the gutters. Before burning anything, check whether Hays County has a burn ban in place.
Watch for your property tax bill. Bills usually arrive this time of year and are due by January 31. If you haven't filed a homestead exemption on your home, it's worth looking into with the Hays Central Appraisal District.
Around Wimberley
Wimberley Market Days, Saturday, November 7. Market Days happen the first Saturday of each month at Lions Field on FM 2325. It's a fun way to get a head start on holiday shopping, and December is the last market of the season.
Community Thanksgiving Dinner. For over 35 years, Wimberley volunteers have served a free Thanksgiving Day meal at the Wimberley Community Center, and they even deliver to neighbors who can't get out. Whether you go to eat or to help, it's a beautiful picture of what makes this town special.
I'm so grateful to call Woodcreek North home, and grateful for neighbors like you. Happy Thanksgiving!
